Colleen McDonald Schmidt
Colleen, a 12-year North Carolina resident, has considerable experience in construction and over 12 years’ experience in the security and safety profession in both the public and private arenas. She was Safety Director for McDonald York Building Company. She served for several years as a police officer for the Montgomery County Police Department in Maryland. During that time, she co-founded the department's Domestic Violence Unit.
Colleen transitioned to corporate security when she joined Charter Communications (Formerly Time Warner Cable) and where she presently serves as Director, Enterprise Security Operations. In this role, she provides strategic planning, guidance and support regarding physical security, crisis management, business continuity, asset protection and investigations while ensuring compliance with company, legal and regulatory requirements. She is responsible for the security management of approximately 5,000 employees, over a million customers and several hundred facilities.
Colleen holds a B.A. in International Studies from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. She played tennis for Mason, which competed at Division I for NCAA competition. She is an active member of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) and the Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT). She currently serves on the Board of Directors for McDonald York Building Company. Colleen is an avid fitness enthusiast. She has participated in several triathlons, a half marathon and numerous 10K races, and a variety of mud runs. Colleen resides in Apex, North Carolina with her husband Steve and their two children, Sami and Garrett.
